A heavy read which demands thorough attention, but worth it!

Gottman's 1994 book comes on the heels of groundbreaking work in behavioral observation methodologies. Trained as a mathematician, Gottman spares us no quantified details. However, quantification and reliable measurement are the indispensible components of good scientific research of which Gottman's work is a nearly overwhelmingly thorough example. Gottman takes us back stage to the development and the testing of hypotheses about what makes marriages tick and what makes them wind down in very convincing fashion. I lecture from this text in my university course and student attention is usually very high and they ask many questions. The fact that Gottman can predict marital dissolution, in some instances, at better than 90%, is itself a testament to his rigourous and insightful work. Isn't that one of the main points of science: to predict?

I had an opportunity to ready and review this book even before I purchased it at Amazon.com. The book is very well thought out, easy to find the answers to specific restoration and concours questions and filled with specific picture examples.
This book is a must library addition for any owner of the Austin Healey marque both for reference and the enjoyment of reading about interesting insights into the history of the cars and the people who were the inspiration behind the production of the cars.

IF and only IF . . .

If and ONLY if you are actively restoring a "Big Healey" for concours, this is a very useful book. When the authors call it a "restoration guide" they mean something very specific. Concours fanatics care about things like plating on screw heads, and the texture of wire loom tape. This book is crammed full of such stultifyingly dull minutae. It's powerful in the hands of a concours restorer, but almost useless if you're a shade tree mechanic trying to figure out how to replace a rusty fender. For everyone else it's guaranteed instant somnulence. Try and read any 5 pages of this book. I guarantee you you're snoring before you've turned two pages. But again, if you're a Healey concours fanatic, this is your book, man. Read it, live it, love it.

This bood is as good as it gets

I have to say this is probably one of the single best restoration guides written for any car. Extensively researched it will give you everything you need to know to do a award winning restoration of the Big Healey. It doesn't really go into mechanical restoration because that's what the shop manual is for - this book covers all the little trim, paint and various details not covered in any other book. This book is absolutely fantastic.

This book is a great purchase for scroll saw, Intarsia, and Segmentation patterns I have found for the price I paid for it, will not go wrong on purchasing this product. This product has some instruction with just about every pattern in this book.

If you need some good ideas and patterns for wildlife this is a good book to have. I really like to many patterns around when i get in a new supply of wood as I fit the pattern to the wood for a one-of-a kind project.

5 Stars for Lyra Parish and her follow up to Single Volume 1!! Time to add Parker Williams to your BBF list!
Roxane VanBuren has found the one man that is crossing her set rules and working his way into her heart. Parker Williams also has a set of rules that he needs to be met to make this relationship work. Love shouldn’t be so hard. But when your heart has been shattered before, you do what you can to protect it. Will either one be able to get past their “rules” and let their love for each other happen?
After finishing Single Vol. 1 I couldn’t wait for this one to come out! I needed to make sure that Roxane didn’t do anything stupid and lose Parker Williams! The man oozes sex appeal, romance, and chivalry in Vol 2. There was a twist I did not expect and all I thought was “No”! Okay a little dramatic, but that is how into the book I was. I’m a fan, what can I say?! Thank you Lyra Parish for another 5 Star read!

OMG I loved this book. I am so ready for book three now. I don't want to wait. I need to know what happens with Parker and Roxane. I LOVE Parker!!! I didn't think I could love him more than Finnley, but he has worked his way into my heart.

Roxane is determined to keep work and personal separate, but Parker is determined to break down all her walls. She knows that nothing good can come of them being together, but there is a connection there that draws her to him. She has known that since the first night she met him at Orleans. Can she give into her desire for Parker without losing focus on work?

Parker is determined to break down all of Roxane's walls. He sees something special in her and wants to get to know her. She is a hard woman to break though. He is hoping that their trip to New York will work in his favor to get her to let down her guard. But can he keep her if her gets her? What will he do if she walks away?

This is an amazing serial. I don't want it to end in the next book. I love reading about Roxi and Parker. But I am excited to read what Lyra has in store for us in the future!!

Loved this book.. I love Lyra. Could not wait for this to be out and its another one with the twists and turns and unpredictability that keeps you wanting to read more of Lyra's book. She is a master at that. Loving book from page one till the last page and saying" wow did not see that coming" that is what I love best in her books and any book I read. Never carbon copies of another persons book... She keeps the story rolling around and never lets you down. Never pages of boring blah blah blah,,, it holds your interest all the way through... Another home run Lyra!

I want to warn any potential buyers that these arrangements ...

I want to warn any potential buyers that these arrangements are going to sound clunky and awkward. Every single note is harmonized as a chord, and in my estimation, that doesn't work. Also, there are no intros or authentic introductions from the original songs. Let the buyer beware. I have played the guitar for over 50 years, have a Master's in classical guitar, and extensive background in jazz. These are awkward, clumsy arrangements.

For Advanced Players...

Full disclosure: I am a player of moderate ability, who is just getting into jazz. The book is as advertised: "...contains 35 professional chord/melody arrangements for solo guitar." Yes, these arrangements are written for a professional player; in other words, if you can easily articulate four or more different, difficult jazz chord changes per bar of music, this work is for you. The tablature appears accurate, and the chord harmonization is very tasty. Just be prepared for a very difficult slog if you are not prepared for this level of work. If you are, the music is quite beautiful and will inspire you to create your own reharmonizations of famous standards. Song choice here is excellent. This would have received five stars if the publisher had included a CD recording of the pieces, both slow and at tempo versions.

Great Arrangements for the soloist

I purchased one of these books (Jazz Standards, then Classics), and now I've purchased all 5. Here's what they are not. They are NOT instructional books. They are NOT play along with the CD books. They are NOT books for jamming with others. What they are are very accurate and rich arrangements of the great jazz classics from the 20's through the 50's. The original keys are preserved. The player moves from one 4 or 5 note chord to the next with each melody note and it is not unusual to go from the 3rd position to the 10th in one single measure. However, the chords, once mastered are very guitar player friendly and flow logically in terms of finger position. The arrangements make sense in terms of the music and the guitar and they are not watered down for the novice nor overly difficult for the sake of diffculty. You can always add a few bass notes or drop a chord for a single note run if you wish. The arrangements leave some space for you to do that. Actually, Yelin in the forward says he intends the player to learn from these arrangements and perhaps become inventive. Absolutely great book and the lower star ratings of others, if you read their reviews, suggest they expect the books to be what they are not. These books are for players whith a lot of playing experience who need some clean no-nonsense arrangements of great golden age jazz tunes to be played by the soloist. Well here they are in a 5 volume series. If you are a guitarist who is comfortable all over the fingerboard and has no issues knotting and unknotting fingers for jazz chords, these books are for you. (ie. Professional Level).
