I can't believe I read this book

I'm pretty sure I got duped into reading this. By myself. I despise triangles & refuse to read them. I saw Alessandra had a new book coming out so I added it to my read list, barely skimming the description. It's Alessandra Torre, I'm going to buy it. No need to look too closely right? I loved Blindfolded Innocence & The Girl in 6E. I'll just buy it & worry about the details later.

Yeah, it's a triangle. Full fledged triangle. A really effed up triangle. If it was anyone but Alessandra I might have just quietly closed the book & moved on. There's not many authors I would endure a triangle for.

I didn't hate Madison, which is basically a raving endorsement. I didn't want to punch anyone in the boob while I read, so well done. Plot twists I didn't see coming. You get led down a merry path thinking you know, but you have no idea. Right thru the epilogue. You think you know that too, & then Alessandra smacks you on the ass & says "haha sucker!"

My genre is billionaire CEO's & virgins. This book is not in my genre but it managed to make me pretty damn happy. Well played author, well played.

5 Ever Expanding Mind Blowing Stars * * * * *
I have a confession to make. I have a condition which will overtake all reasonable thought when I love a book. The first symptom surfaces with the excitement of discovery. I will be in the beginning of the book and little twinges of recognition fire causing me to sit a little taller and be more focused on the reading. As I progress, if what I am reading really is condition worthy, I fall into a zone of deep connection with what is on the page and then become one with the story.

There will come a time, though, while in this state where I will either be in the zone through to the end and have an enjoyable read or I transition to the extreme most severe portion of this affliction.

This stage is when all of the rest of the world drops away.

When I do not care if I have appointments or commitments
When I do not care if I eat or sleep
When the only thing that matters in my life in that moment is what I am reading.

Sex Love Repeat caused my most recent episode of this condition. I started this and did not move from my chair until the end of the last sentence. I could not move. It was one of the most intense experiences I have had.

The question of can you love more than one person at a time has been asked over and over again. I think most of us have at one time or another had that discussion saying if only I could combine one fella's talents with another's ability to be the caring considerate one. It is the desire to have it all.... Only for most of us, it is just out of reach.

Society says no with a capital N.

Yet, Alessandra Torre presents this exact scenario. She creates a woman comfortable in who she is. Who has learned the hard way that things can change in a flash of a moment and what in the end really matters. She has made her able to make intelligent choices; live a life without shame, insecurity or compromise. And she has made her with charm, savvy and incredibly sexual.

So with this main character, we get the set up of her meeting a man who is that beautiful, powerbroker driven to succeed in all things. He catches Madison in a pure joyous moment and from that connection, sparks fly. They both understand the drawn to each other... it is matter of fact. It is primal, hard and necessary for the both of them. But Stewart, this man, can only give moments in his life... he has no capacity to devote to Madison other than here and there times....

So knowing Madison's needs and his concerns for her, he suggests something out of the ordinary .... Something unusual.... He suggests a full time man for her. Someone who would be there for her... someone to look out and care... someone who would make her happy when he couldn't... BUT someone who will accept Madison keeping him in her life as well.

Madison takes this idea and files it away.... Goes about her life not searching or looking for this man but he happens to cross her path and she sees the opportunity to possibly have it all.

Madison starts a relationship with Paul... this pro surfer who has this beauty about him that calms yet energies those around him. She wants to be with him and carefully presents her situation. She loves a man who does not have time for her; who will be part of her life periodically and how she wants Paul to be her full time other half. At first, Paul cannot agree as much as he is taken with Madison. He then feels the pain of her not being there in his life and accepts Madison's terms.... Because having a part of Madison, any part, is less painful than not having her at all.

We journey with Madison... we see her with Stewart; we see her with Paul and we rejoice in the experience.

But as readers of this tale, we are given an extra bonus.... We are given another set of eyes observing the complex relationship of Stewart, Madison and Paul.

This is where I have to share another phase of my condition.... This is where I start going into overdrive of contacting every person I know who loves to read and badger them to read the book which triggered the episode I am in....

This is where I tell you... reading this will cause you such range of emotions and feelings you will not be able to keep track of all of them. You will be reading and think you have an idea where this is going and then you will be flipped, slammed and caressed into puddle of wonder and outrage. Wonder due to the artistry of writing and outrage because you NEVER saw any of it coming.

So I am left babbling about how much I love this book; how much I love this author and how I want you to read this. My last part of this condition which I am in now, is to offer those who do read this my assistance in their journey with Madison, Stewart and Paul. I have already been able to guide others through this so I know I will be able to help you.

I can honestly say, this might have been one of the best books I've read all year.

Alessandra Torre's Sex. Love. Repeat. stands on a mountain comprised of its own magnificence and looks down at the other books which fit so snugly into their predesigned genres. It takes everything you thought you ever knew about Romance, Sex, and Suspense and turns it on its head.

People often say little things like "This is Not Your Typical Romance!", but Sex. Love. Repeat. is not your typical anything…

Torre writes sex and suspense like fluid poetry, infusing each word with maximum potency. She hooks the reader from the first lines, her grip unceasing until the conclusion of the book. It leaves you utterly breathless.

Sex. Love. Repeat. is a celebration of Erotic Romance as the art form it is. I can honestly say, this might have been one of the best books I've read all year.

Close, but...

I was a little disappointed with this cookbook. The recipes themselves are good and contain a lot of useful and creative ideas. In addition to reducing the GI of dishes, it also aims to make them healthier all around by lowering fat and sodium. My favorite aspect is that many recipes are large and freeze well.. convenience foods have always been my diet downfall, and pulling something out of the freezer and popping it in the microwave is perfect for me.

BUT the book ONLY focuses on low-GI diets. I was disappointed that there was absolutely no mention of eliminating foods that throw off your hormonal balance by containing too many plant estrogens, and foods and food substitutes that contain hormones or hormone-mimicking chemicals. There is no mention of limiting things like soy and certain herbal teas and supplements. Did you know that aspartame blocks certain androgen receptors? If you have PCOS, you shouldn't be drinking a lot of diet sodas! Do you have any idea how many hormones are pumped into commercially-raised meat and dairy animals, and thus are passed along to you in their food products? There is a great (but too-short) chapter on foods in Dr. Vliet's book "The Savvy Woman's Guide to PCOS", as well as a couple of nutrition books aimed at PCOS patients (which I've ordered but haven't received yet, so can't recommend).

PCOS Diet Cookbook is Fantastic!

As a woman with PCOS who is trying to use a low-GI diet and lose weight, this cookbook has given me LOTS of ideas! The recipes are varied and tasty and simple enough for people who aren't amazing chefs. I've tried about 10 of the recipes so far and have enjoyed them all! Especially the soups. The one drawback to this book is that the recipes make HUGE portions, some as many as 15 servings! I have tried halving the recipes with much success, however. Many of the recipes also freeze well, so if the recipe makes too much for your family, you can save some for another time! If you have PCOS, like me, and are trying to take better care of your diet and nutrition, I highly recommend this book!

Not impressed, Contradictory and confusing

I was not impressed with this book. I think it is overpriced for what it is. And the recipes look OK but some of them seem like things I shouldn't be eating like muffins. The book information is very confusing and contradictory. For example, in the back of the book it lists 'good choices for low gi foods' and 'high gi foods'. Rice Krispies are on BOTH lists.
I ended up more confused and still lost on what to eat after reading this book. I would not recommend.

About the Author
Jean Drèze is a Visiting Professor at the Delhi School of Economics and an international authority on development economics. His association with India goes back more than twenty years during which time he has studied the issues in India minutely and has authored many books, research papers, and newspaper articles on education, poverty, development, nuclear doctrine, freedom of information, and the Narmada Struggle. Amartya Sen is the Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, and the winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Economic Science. He has been President of the Indian Economic Association, the American Economic Association, the International Economic Association, and the Econometric Society. He has taught at Calcutta, Delhi, Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, and Harvard.

Splendid book

This is possibly THE book you want to read if you want to read ONE book on economic development (or lack thereof) in India. Prof. Sen and Dreze are among the best scholars when it comes to the problems of the Indian subcontinent. Another reviewer seems to completely disregard the fact that this book is not by Sen alone, but it is a result of a joint effort with Jean Dreze. Whoever cares about India and know a bit about the Economics literature on this country will KNOW that Dreze is a first rate scholar who has *literally* devoted his life (professional AND personal) to this country, and disregarding his contribution to this volume is not only wrong but also very disrespectful.

This is a deep, extremely informed, very well written book that anyone who cares about Indian economic, political, and social development should read. Even if both Sen and Dreze are economists (Sen is also a Nobel prize winner), the book is accessible to anyone, as it contains virtually no math or statistics. An outstanding list of references will provide an excellent guide to the reader interested in knowing more about the topics covered here.

Incisive Analysis

The chain is as strong as its weakest link. A nation as rich as its poorest person. Sen understands that no nation can be genuinely proud unless it takes care of basic things like education and offers genuine opportunities to the marginalized. The book is a must read for everyone who are on the 'India Shining' bandwagon. True that the middle class in India is growing, but so is the Maoist threat. Great social engineering by noble souls like Anna Hazare, Bindeshwar Pathak, Baba AMte is the answer. Unfortunately Sen misses that. The book doesnt deal with such solutions. Nevertheless it does deserve 5 stars because it astutely analyzes the existing problem. We need more people like Sen to bring forth the truth.

Sen at his best

This book is Sen at his best. The current 2002 edition is an update of a 1995 edition entitled "India: Economic Development and Social Opportunity." The modification of the title reflects a move to make the notion at the center of Sen's thinking more precise. For those not involved in the public policy debate in India itself, this is the central notion and the real value of Sen's work and finds its best exposition in this broad-ranging, political-economic commentary on development in Sen's native land. By contrast, the exposition it has Sen's more "theoretical" works such as the recent "Rationality and Freedom" is desperately inadequate.
Sen is very much not someone inclined towards a single solution to social problems, or a single rule-of-thumb for such solutions, but there is nevertheless a strong, unitary theme to Sen's commentary.
The discussion (in Chapter 7) of "Gender Equality and Women's Agency" is paradigmatic. It is not only paradigmatic though, for Sen believes that the eradication of the anti-female bias which pervades much of Indian society is itself central to the solution of all the social problems in India in its own right.
Still, in large measure what Sen has to say about how women's oppression in India can be overcome, applies also to what he has to say about the plight of low caste people, people living in poor areas of the country and poverty and oppression in general.
Sen's notion could be summarised by means of a series of five concepts, each of which in turn takes a step closer to the essential notion of what is needed to lead a good life in society: (1) commodities, wealth and value, (2) functioning, (3) capability, (4) voice and finally (5) critical voice.
The problem is that the notion of "critical voice" (subjectivity) cannot be developed within the framework of utilitarian economics and social-choice theory as Sen seems determined to do.

Network science is a rapidly emerging field of study that encompasses mathematics, computer science, physics, and engineering. A key issue in the study of complex networks is to understand the collective behavior of the various elements of these networks.

Although the results from graph theory have proven to be powerful in investigating the structures of complex networks, few books focus on the algorithmic aspects of complex network analysis. Filling this need, Complex Networks: An Algorithmic Perspective supplies the basic theoretical algorithmic and graph theoretic knowledge needed by every researcher and student of complex networks.

This book is about specifying, classifying, designing, and implementing mostly sequential and also parallel and distributed algorithms that can be used to analyze the static properties of complex networks. Providing a focused scope which consists of graph theory and algorithms for complex networks, the book identifies and describes a repertoire of algorithms that may be useful for any complex network.

About the Author

Kayhan Erciyes is a professor of computer science and engineering and also the rector of Izmir University, Izmir, Turkey. Dr. Erciyes worked as a research and development engineer of Alcatel Turkey, Alcatel Portugal, and Alcatel SEL. He has worked as faculty in Oregon State University, UC Davis and California State University, US and Izmir and Aegean universities. His research interests are on distributed systems, graph theory and distributed algorithms for complex networks, mobile ad hoc networks, wireless sensor networks and the Grid and has published extensively in these areas. Dr. Erciyes is the designer and implementer of one of the first commercially available MODEMs in Turkey
